When mum-of-two Stephanie Brown couldn’t find the artwork she wanted to adorn her home, she decided to take matters into her own hands. The stylish graphic artist chats to Louise Martin about her passion for artAfter moving into her new home, Stephanie Brown was eager to fill her walls with some contemporary art that reflected her personality.
But after months searching for the perfect art to fill her blank canvasses, the graphic artist couldn’t find what she was looking for so started sketching some ideas herself. “I knew I wanted something very contemporary and that wasn’t going to cost a fortune, but that made a statement too,” explains the stylish mum-of-two. “So I thought ‘hang on, I’ll create something myself’ and it all went from there.”
As a student, Stephanie, 41, began an art and design foundation course at Wisbech College but didn’t complete it, as she was keen to get into the world of work. “It wasn’t made clear to me that you could be a successful artist, so I thought I need to make some money so I started my design consultancy, One Vision,” says Stephanie.
Based at the St John’s Innovation Centre in Cambridge, Stephanie founded One Vision 17 years ago, where, along with her husband Matt – who works on the sales side – Stephanie creates all forms of design from corporate identity to
glossy brochures.
A successful graphic artist, once the creative mum started designing pieces for her family home she found she couldn’t suppress her artistic urges any longer and has been selling her Andy Warhol-esque artwork from her website for the past three years.
The first piece Stephanie designed was Pout, which shows nine colourful lipsticks in a ‘pop art’ style. “When I create, I try to create not just a pretty picture but something in the background of it,”
